<p class="MsoNormal">On days like today, when we are grieving the loss of children, teachers, and community members murdered in senseless acts of violence, it’s hard to stay focused, to  be patient, to feel secure, or to find peace.  Many of you joined me today
 outside the Hedco Education Building at 11:32 AM (the time the shooting broke out at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas yesterday) for a moment of silence and to share in our grief, horror, anger, and disbelief regarding these horrific acts of violence.
 We are still reeling from the racist acts of murder in a Buffalo, New York supermarket, and are grieving the racially motivated death of George Floyd 2 years ago this day. There are so many horrors that words and tears just can’t describe.

<p class="MsoNormal">I thank you for coming together with me as a community and finding connection, love, and care in the support of one another. I thank faculty for creating space and extra time for students and for being vulnerable and sharing in our collective

<b><span style="color:windowtext">Cybersecurity Awareness Training: </span></b><span style="color:windowtext">The Information Security Office has launched a new online training in cybersecurity and will begin conducting simulated email phishing educational
 campaigns for UO faculty members, staff, graduate employees and student employees. The training, called "UO Cybersecurity Basics," is available to all employees through
<a href="https://uomytrack.pageuppeople.com/Dock.aspx">MyTrack</a>. It consists of three groups of short video modules on topics such as passwords, email, devices, multifactor authentication, remote work and data handling. More
<a href="https://service.uoregon.edu/TDClient/2030/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=140418">
information about the training</a> is available in the UO Service Portal. Soon UO employees also will start to receive simulated phishing emails as part of an effort to raise awareness and provide education about avoiding scams. Those simulations will imitate
 the techniques of real <a href="https://around.uoregon.edu/content/phishing-texts-and-emails-target-uo-community-fall-surge">
phishing attacks</a>, such as asking for passwords, enticing the reader to click a link or pressuring the recipient to make a fraudulent wire transfer. They may also include the names and logos of familiar companies. However, unlike in a real phishing scam,
 a click on one of UO's simulated phishing emails will lead the recipient to an informational webpage about phishing. The two new efforts are among those

<b><span style="color:windowtext">Employee Demographic Data Collection:</span></b><span style="color:windowtext"> Improvements and updates to DuckWeb, the University of Oregon’s online information system, now allows employees to voluntarily provide additional
 demographic information in support of the UO’s commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity. Employees can now voluntarily provide their gender identity and sexual orientation by completing a new form in
<a href="https://duckweb.uoregon.edu/duckweb/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin">DuckWeb</a>. While logged in, employees can provide, update, or change other demographic information as well as review their address and emergency contact information.
<span class="normaltextrun">In the future, employees will also be able to voluntarily report their preferred pronouns. More information will be shared when this option becomes available.</span><span class="eop"> 
</span>The university collects demographic and biographical information on a voluntary basis in compliance with federal and state laws and requirements mandated by the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission. The information is used for aggregate reporting
 purposes within the university and to meet compliance requirements. Individual information is not shared with UO departments, managers or supervisors, and it is not used in employment decisions. It is the
<a href="https://policies.uoregon.edu/vol-5-human-resources/ch-11-human-resources-other/prohibited-discrimination-and-retailiation">
policy</a> of the university to maintain an environment free of discrimination against any person because of their real or perceived “protected characteristic,” which includes race, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender
 expression, disability and veteran status, among others. University employees are protected by federal and state laws and university policies. The Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance is responsible for investigating and responding to incidents
