<p class="MsoNormal">I am pleased to announce that a loyal and accomplished COE alum is providing us with an endowed distinguished lecture series, a first for our college. The Dan Reschly (PhD 1971) Distinguished Lecture Series will be an annual event that
brings great thinkers and new voices to our college to address a range of topics, including prevention/intervention of problems in educational achievement, behavior disorders, disability status, and mental health challenges of children and youth. I’ve had
the pleasure of knowing Dan for a long time and know that this lecture series reflects his career – that of a scholar with an astounding mind and a fearless voice for students with challenges or differential abilities. As an aside, I also had the distinct
pleasure of hiring Professor Amy Reschly, Dan’s daughter, when I served as a department head.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dan received his PhD in Educational Psychology from our College of Education. He is now retired and serves on the UO Alumni Association Board of Directors where he is a fierce advocate for our college across campus. More details about his
many contributions are cited on the Vanderbilt University website.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">Dan Reschly is Professor of Education and Psychology in Peabody College, Vanderbilt University where he Chaired the Department of Special Education from 1998-2006, gaining the #1 national ranking for the first time
in 2003. From 1975 to 1998 Reschly directed the Iowa State University School Psychology Program where he achieved the rank of Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Education. Reschly earned graduate degrees at the University of Iowa and the University
of Oregon and served as a school psychologist in Iowa, Oregon, and Arizona.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">In 1999 Reschly was listed in the top 5 in school psychology career service contributions and in 2004 he was identified as the most widely cited author of school psychology books and journals over the 2002-2004
period. He has been active in state and national leadership roles including President of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), Editor of the
<i>School Psychology Review</i>, Chair of NASP-NCATE Graduate Program Approval, President of the Society for the Study of School Psychology, and Chair of the Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs. Reschly served on the National Academies of Sciences
Panels on Standards-based Reform and the Education of Students with Disabilities and overrepresentation of minoritized students in Special Education. He also chaired the National Academies Panel on Intellectual Disability Determination.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">He has received the NASP Lifetime Achievement Award, three NASP Distinguished Service Awards, the Stroud Award, was appointed Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological
Society, Charter Member of the Iowa Academy of Education, 1996 Outstanding Alumnus, College of Education, University of Oregon, 2000 NASP Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2007 NASP Legend Award.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">With a gift of $545,000, Dan has enabled the college to launch a lecture series in 2023.

</b>The University of Oregon is launching an initiative to elevate awareness of the university’s commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive workplace. This campus-wide initiative calls on faculty and staff to recognize harassment and discrimination, know
their reporting obligations, and speak up to reinforce the institution’s values. Human Resources provides an updated web-based workplace harassment and discrimination prevention training based on the university’s current policies.<b>
