<p class="MsoNormal">Many of us are devoted to three activities this week, recruiting, recruiting, and recruiting. We are trying to continuously improve our recruitment of students, staff, and faculty members by employing new methods and outlets. For example,
Lisa Fortin is leading us in hosting a college-wide open house tomorrow evening at 5 pm. All admitted graduate students have been invited to attend. The response has been quite positive, about 100 RSVPs thus far. Your students are hosting breakout rooms for
our guests by academic program area, Adam is handling technology, Angel and Kylie will be there to answer questions, Juls and Emily Barker have coordinated publicity, Amanda sent email invitations to students, and the list of collaborators goes on. We will
assess the session on Friday and improve the upcoming session we have planned for undergrads. Wish us luck. By the way, these events are intended to supplement, not supplant the great recruiting efforts occurring at the individual faculty, staff, and program
level. My hope is that this event can serve as an additional tool for helping our programs recruit students who are weighing attendance at other institutions against the many advantages of attending our COE.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All gratitude to Dianna, who has given us the opportunity to include a full page ad in the April issue of
<i>Insight into Diversity</i> (see attached; page 14). We received this opportunity on a short timeline but everyone came together quickly to assemble the ad – Dianna, Juls, and Emily among others. This ad is directed at a national readership of faculty and
staff job seekers. Again, we are supplementing the good recruiting work that all of you do.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have also announced the availability of our Early Intervention (EI)/Early Childhood Special Education Distance Learning Option to prospective students in Singapore and the region (see the Updates and Upcoming announcements below). Emily,
Jantina, EI faculty and staff, Kylie, and others worked together to plan this outreach. By the way, EI offers all master’s degree courses in the evening for access by working professionals in Oregon and synchronous access by Singapore students in the morning.
Kylie fielded the first inquiry in response to the ad from China today. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Also this week, we have hired a part-time student recruiter (.20, or one day per week) who will work out of Bend, La Pine, and Portland for now. Some of you already know Deon Logan because of his prior position as a teaching staff recruiter
for the Portland Public Schools. He begins work next week with a busy schedule of introductions to our academic program coordinators, department heads, student services coordinators, etc. Deon is well connected throughout the state and very excited to devote
some of his time to helping us recruit students from communities that have not experienced as much outreach from us previously.<o:p></o:p></p>
