<p class="MsoNormal">Thank you to everyone who participated in today’s session! We were pleased with the participation and engagement from everyone during both the orientation and the keynote presentation.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Thank you again to our student guests, Lue Williams, Ryan Humbert, and Di Li, who were amazing and a wonderfully refreshing way to start the year!<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Regarding Dr. Baran’s session specifically, I’d like to thank everyone who provided feedback via the chat box during the live event and to those of you who sent a specific message afterwards.

<p class="MsoNormal">Given the feedback, we realized that we missed a critical moment to clarify why a discussion around Subtle Acts of Exclusion felt like an ideal starting point for our college’s ongoing conversations about race, equity, and inclusion in
2020. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our college’s goal is now and remains one of antiracism, anti-oppression, and inclusion. That work is underway in our college in a variety of ways and many members of the COE community are involved in critical activities designed to create
change and move the dial in large and impactful ways. But the truth is, there are still many people who regularly ask “what can I do
<u>now</u> to help”? Shared language around Subtle Acts of Exclusion was selected as the first step towards answering that question. It is our hope that by facilitating meaningful conversation around real experiences that occur in our college every day, we
will be able to more thoroughly engage in the joint work of forging our way through the bigger changes ahead. Although yesterday’s presentation received mixed reviews, we hope that it at least will spur that joint conversation and begin this process.

<p class="MsoNormal">Finally, it is worth noting that while we had hoped to engage Tiffany Jana as our speaker, when that option did not materialize, we determined that the topic of subtle acts of exclusion was important enough for us to invite their co-author
for this initial conversation. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the coming days we hope to release more information about the plans to continually engage the college community in both the discourse and the planning that will be necessary as we proceed.
