done a fantastic job of facilitating and stewarding our scholarship and research enterprise. And, much of her work has not been highly visible. She has been a key partner for our university office of federal relations and she has served as a strong voice for
the COE in meetings with local and national legislative delegations. Emily has represented us well in numerous other national meetings and societies, including the LEARN Coalition, AERA, and US Department of Education. I wish her all success in this new role.

last five years and is serving on the Research Innovations Experts Group for the international Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). She previously directed Oregon’s involvement in the Cisco, Intel and Microsoft project on Assessment
and Teaching of 21st Century Skills (ATC21S). She also served previously with OECD for the PISA Questionnaire Experts Group (QEG 2015) and on research and policy projects associated with the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement
(IEA) including e-TIMSS and ICILS; the U.S. National Academies of Science for how to assess the Next Generation Science Standards; and with Harvard University on data science research with semi-structured and unstructured data in serious gaming assessments.
She has served as principal investigator, co-principal investigator, advisor, or evaluator for many projects with other universities and state agencies. This spring, she worked on urgent planning with the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) on the “Ready
Schools, Safe Learners” guidance following K-12 school closures and is now working with the ODE on policy and research related to Comprehensive Distance Learning.

Kathleen has expressed particular interest in extending collaborations available to faculty, staff and students in the COE. Her interest in building collaborations is exemplified by both the new
Social Systems Data Science Network (SDS) that Dr. Scalise co-launched with Emily Tanner-Smith last year for which core members volunteered from all four COE departments, and the journal club co-writing opportunities that she and Professor Keith Zvoch in EMPL
have been co-hosting in recent years with paper opportunities drawing interest from 10 or more co-authors across numerous departments on exciting, groundbreaking topics. I know that Kathleen would be delighted to hear from anyone who wants more information
or has thoughts and ideas to further the very important research and scholarship areas of interest throughout the COE.
