Dear COE Faculty, Staff, and GEs,

The UO Engagement survey closed on March 9th with a campuswide completion rate of 54%. The data have now been compiled for review and discussion within the COE. Our three academic departments, the COE administrative unit, and research units* with more than 5 survey responses, have begun to receive and access their unit-level data. You will be hearing from your local unit leaders soon regarding the proposed next steps within your area, including meetings to discuss unit-level findings and start action planning to deepen areas of strength and identify opportunities for growth.

In support of your department- and unit-level discussions, I have also attached the aggregated COE engagement data here for your review. The COE had a 44% participation rate with 257 total respondents across all surveyed employee groups. While we’ve been told that our college’s overall results fare well relative to other units on campus, we will still be reviewing our data thoughtfully as part of our collegewide discussions to understand what the responses may mean to us now. We know that the experiences of a team or a department will be different from the experience of an individual, just as experiences vary from individual to individual, and we anticipate ebbs and flows based on time of quarter, workload, and availability of resources. Regardless of these many nuances, the data tell interesting stories about a moment in time and can inform our forward planning in meaningful ways.

Your department head or unit director will be sharing your area’s data in the coming weeks and leading the next steps (possibly with the help of a UO facilitator). Please watch for those communications. We ask that you support your department head or unit director in engaging around these data with curiosity, and we hope that these discussions prove meaningful and rich in your respective areas. As team conversations progress in the coming weeks and months, the Office of the Dean will be working on similar activities on identifying ways to bring team-based efforts together towards shared, college-wide goals.

*GEs and research units with under 5 participants will be rolled up into the Office of the Dean for next steps.

Best wishes,

Emily
