coe-staff: COE budget reduction information

Dear COE Community,
As outlined in today's message from President Scholz and Provost Long, university leadership has undertaken a coordinated, campus-wide effort to address the UO's deficit in the Education & General budget. Sadly, this budget reduction work has resulted in the elimination of numerous positions across campus, including several positions within our own college. Given the palpable stress and uncertainty associated with today's campus-wide announcement, I wanted to notify you that as of this afternoon, all employees within the COE whose positions have been eliminated as part of this budget reduction work have now received notification.

The decision to eliminate these positions was not made lightly; these are our close colleagues who have been devoted to serving our students and academic programs. Their loss will be felt deeply in our community, and I trust each of us will support our affected colleagues with dignity, respect, and empathy through this difficult transition. The university is providing counseling, job coaching, financial advice, and other resources to colleagues facing layoffs, described in more detail on the HR webpage for career transitions<https://ups.uoregon.edu/career-transition-resources>.

These budget reductions set a somber tone for what is typically a joyous and celebratory time of year as we welcome students back for fall term. Over the coming academic year, we will continue to discuss these budget issues collectively, what they mean for our college going forward, and how we can best position ourselves for sustained excellence in the years ahead.
