Subject: Search started for College of Education Dean
Sent on behalf of Christopher P. Long, provost and senior vice president
Dear College of Education community:
I hope the beginning of the new fall term has brought each of you a sense of renewed energy and promise. As I mentioned in my message to campus<https://provost.uoregon.edu/emily-tanner-smith-named-interim-dean-college-education> this summer, we are launching a nationwide search for the College of Education (COE) dean this term.
Since her appointment, Emily Tanner-Smith has provided thoughtful leadership as the interim dean of the college. I am grateful for the authenticity and care she brings to her leadership practice and for her partnership in navigating this important period of transition.
As we turn our attention to the COE dean search, let me begin by thanking Bruce Blonigen, dean of the Lundquist College of Business, for serving as chair of the search committee. I am confident that Bruce will provide intentional leadership of the committee.
Members of the COE community will have many opportunities for engagement throughout the process. As the committee begins its work, WittKieffer<https://wittkieffer.com/> will hold listening sessions with faculty and staff, designed to develop and refine the position profile. More information on these sessions will be shared in an email to you soon. In addition, we have created a search website<https://provost.uoregon.edu/college-education-dean-search> to ensure that everyone remains updated on the search process, and we will invite the COE and members of the broader UO community to participate during finalist visits.
I look forward to working with all of you to identify, recruit, and hire a dean who will continue to advance and elevate the excellent teaching and scholarship for which the college is known. Thank you all for your active engagement in this process.
Sincerely,
Christopher P. Long
Provost and Senior Vice President
