The Weekly Vol. 7 #10

Dean's Message

Dear COE Community,

As we inch toward the end of fall term, it is inspiring to reflect on how much we've accomplished together this fall, and the impact our work is having both in and outside the classroom.

For instance, last week I attended the UO's first "Golden Egg Innovator Awards" ceremony, hosted by the Industry, Innovation, and Translation team within the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation. It was fantastic to see such strong COE representation among the awardees, including faculty and staff from our Behavioral Research and Teaching<https://brtprojects.org/>, Center on Teaching and Learning<https://ctl.uoregon.edu/>, Educational & Community Supports<https://ecs.uoregon.edu/>, and intoCareers<https://www.intocareers.org/> units. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the impressive efforts of these teams who are working tirelessly to get their products and services out into the hands of schools, classrooms, and community partners.

I hope you all find time to relax and recharge the rest of this week and can make some space to pause and reflect on the impact of all that you do. I am grateful to have the privilege of working with so many dedicated and talented folks.

Best wishes,

Emily

Guidance and Resources for Encounters with Immigration Enforcement

The UO's Division of Global Engagement has published guidance on how to respond to immigration enforcement. You can access that information here<https://isss.uoregon.edu/federal-updates#enforcement>, including what to do if immigration enforcement comes to campus<https://isss.uoregon.edu/sites/default/files/2025-02/ogc-immigration-enforcement-guidance.pdf>.

I am also attaching a printable wallet card<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.ilrc.org/redcards__;!!C5qS4YX3!GpU1hDpREDVNODf-hCWEzmGD1o1yiyYTsT0y2p4nQkJ6MI7YXXHXfXe5Grv9f7kBJTwy2od0CGe2n57juBgVvA$> in English ([?pdf icon] Red Card English.pdf<https://uoregon.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/O365_COEExecutiveAssistantRole/ERorKCASRdFGs0T_YXKdTM4BToqiTpLenQGJ2W__wCevsg?e=kP5rge>) and Spanish ([?pdf icon] Red Card Spanish.pdf<https://uoregon.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/O365_COEExecutiveAssistantRole/EavW3YyNp-VAsbEU0Sc4vvMBbFrM-am342w-hDTcQAn86A?e=dcojMs>) with specific language to use if agents request information about a student, staff, or faculty member, or request access to classrooms or campus spaces. This resource is also available on the Global Engagement website<https://isss.uoregon.edu/federal-updates#enforcement>.

If ICE officers contact you or your colleagues, the Office of General Counsel should be your first point of contact. They can be reached at (541) 346-3082 or at gcounsel at uoregon.edu<mailto:gcounsel at uoregon.edu> for assistance or to respond to any inquiries from immigration officials. You also can email the Division of Global Engagement at intl at uoregon.edu<mailto:intl at uoregon.edu>, and they can help connect you with resources. For issues related to Dreamer immigrant students, please reach out to Justine Carpenter at 541-346-1123 or justcarp at uoregon.edu<mailto:justcarp at uoregon.edu>.

In addition, the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration also provides Oregon-specific resources and data related to immigration and higher education. You can access the site here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.higheredimmigrationportal.org/state/oregon/__;!!C5qS4YX3!GpU1hDpREDVNODf-hCWEzmGD1o1yiyYTsT0y2p4nQkJ6MI7YXXHXfXe5Grv9f7kBJTwy2od0CGe2n57tRzyTNA$>.

ICE activity and media coverage can be emotionally distressing. If you, a student, or a colleague needs support, please review the University Health Services' Counseling Services website<https://counseling.uoregon.edu/services> to review referrals and resources.

Research Compliance Services Survey

The Human Subjects Research Advisory Committee (HSRAC) is soliciting your input about the Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and the Research Compliance Services (RCS) at the UO. We are particularly interested in how your experience has been in the last year after changes were made following the IRB Action Plan for Continuous Quality Improvement went into effect. We want to understand areas that are working well and where services can be improved. Please share your perceptions and experience with UO's Research Compliance Services (RCS) Office and the IRB by responding to this brief survey<https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_77kZxqi6MIBO2Sq> (approximately 15 minutes or less) by December 15th.
