Summary Incident Bulletin

When:  Monday, May 5, 5:30-11:00 p.m.

Where:                Johnson Hall

What:

  *   On Monday, May 5, 54 members of the UO Student Workers union refused to leave the Johnson Hall administration building when the building was closed and locked at 5:30 p.m.


  *   After being asked multiple times to leave, occupiers were warned that UO Police Department officers would enter and they could be arrested.


  *   Protesters told officers that they were willing to go to jail and would not leave until their demands were met. Protesters had blocked all entrances to Johnson Hall.


  *   In alignment with our responsibility to protect the campus community and maintain operations, UOPD and Eugene Police Department officers entered the building just before 10:30 p.m. and provided the remaining 30-40 occupants the opportunity to leave without arrest. The students then voted and left on their own without incident. No arrests were made, and no force was used.


  *   After the occupants left the building, around 200 people who had gathered nearby surrounded the police officers and began taunting them.

  *   Three police tires were slashed on two UOPD vehicles. No damage was found inside the building.


  *   UOSW protestors left the area within 30 minutes after vacating Johnson Hall.
