Dear COE Community,

It’s been quite a week! We have sent more info out on our all-staff listserv related to potential changes to federal funding due to presidential executive orders. I would encourage you to stay updated as this may be a rapidly evolving space (although stable for now). Updates can be found on the OVPRI website: Updates on Federal Executive Orders and Research Activities | UO Research and Innovation<https://research.uoregon.edu/updates-on-federal-executive-orders-and-research-activities>

Today’s weekly email is lengthy, but I encourage you to read it all. Lots of good info here.

Stay well and reach out to those who may need extra support.

Warmly,
Laura Lee

Updates and Upcoming
Update: Office of Management and Budget Memo Rescinded
Today the White House's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued Memorandum M-25-14 to rescind OMB Memorandum M-25-13, which had ordered a pause on all federal funding assistance including billions of dollars in grants and loans to colleges and universities.

UO Hold on Messaging Regarding Executive Orders
For those with questions about potential statements from the UO regarding the national change of administration and recent Executive Orders: At this time, the university does not have a statement or plans to issue a statement in response to executive orders. The UO administration has shared that they have convened a dedicated group of university leaders with expertise across a wide array of fields working to better understand the impact of executive orders and agency requests and to share appropriate direction with departments and colleges at UO.

The UO has restated their commitment to remaining focused on the University of Oregon's institutional mission: to educate, discover, and serve our community and remains committed to building a flourishing community enriched by diversity of perspective, ability, experience, thought, identity, and background.

Spotlights and Recognition
New EDST Faculty Hired
We are pleased to share that Claire Mackevicius will be joining our faculty in the fall as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education Studies. Dr. Mackevicius fills our IHP search in education policy and equity. Dr. Mackevicius holds a PhD in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern (2024) where she is currently a Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellow. She also holds a BA in Economics from the Univ of Chicago. Dr. Mackevicius was an NAEd/Spencer dissertation awardee and a UCEA/AERA Clark Scholar. Her work uses critical quantitative methods (QuantCrit) and mixed methods to examine issues of equity in school finance and governance especially by shedding light on otherwise ‘stealth’ inequities. She co-founded and co-leads the Quant4What Collective on QuantCrit and anti-racist use of quantitative methods which was awarded a $50,000 conference grant from the Spencer Foundation. I wish to extend my gratitude to the search committee, Ilana Umansky (chair), David Liebowitz, Edward Olivos, and Gina Biancarosa, for their excellent work and leadership on behalf of the college!
