Dear COE Community,

The New Year is behind us and we are squarely "in" the year 2025. It's been an action-packed week already and it's only Wednesday! I ask each of you in our college community to remember our values and priorities as we navigate 2025. We are committed to justice, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to action that promotes belonging for all. We are committed to instructional practices that invite dialogue and respectful discussion about challenging topics.

In that spirit, the University is hosting Dr. Tia McNair as our MLK Luncheon Keynote Speaker tomorrow, Thursday 1/23 at 11:30 am. A nationally recognized leader on equity, inclusive excellence, Tia McNair will be our 2025 keynote speaker for our annual MLK Luncheon. With three decades of experience in higher education, Dr. McNair's work focuses on identifying strategies to eliminate inequities in student outcomes, improving student learning and engagement, and reimagining educational environments to support increased student belonging. The title of Dr. McNair's talk is "Creating a Beloved Community: Why equity is a Foundation for Flourishing".

If you didn't RSVP, don't worry! You can watch a livestream<https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/2024-25-african-american-workshop-and-lecture-series> of Dr. McNair's keynote.

I invite you to re-commit to our community and join me and each other in cultivating a climate that fosters equity and belonging.

Warmly,
Laura Lee
