The Office of Development at the College of Education has launched a SharePoint page detailing over $1 million in funding opportunities for students, including new mechanisms like Emergency Bridge Funds and Professional Development Funds.

With over 💲one million dollars💲in donated funds available for qualified College of Education students each academic year, it is important for the Office of Development to work directly with faculty and staff to ensure students who need funding are aware of the existing and new mechanisms we have created to help students when and how they need it most.

Many of you may be familiar with our pre-existing funding mechanisms:

COE Scholarship Application

COE Master's Program Recruitment Funds (master's/D.Ed. programs can start their nominations today!)

Doctoral Research Awards

This year the Office of Development is excited to announce additional funding mechanisms for students:

  *
Emergency Bridge Funds - $5000 per academic year for each master's/D.Ed. program. To be allocated to one or more students in jeopardy of not registering for next term's classes.
     *
Program Director nominates, Department Head reviews and awards.

  *
Student Professional Development Funds - This replaces the doctoral conference travel awards and creates a funding mechanism for relevant graduate students to partake in professional development. Amounts for each program are currently being determined but will relate directly to the requirements of graduate programs to have their students present at conferences or take additional 'coursework' outside the University of Oregon.
     *
Student self-nominates with the approval of Program Director of Faculty Advisor; Office of Development reviews and awards.

  *
COE Graduation Cost Funds - Many graduate students finish their academic careers with the need to pay out of pocket for licensure, background checks, certificates, or exams in order to enter the professional field after the completion of academic studies. It is our goal to fund every graduate student that demonstrates financial need as determined by the UO to cover these costs!

Student self-nominates; Office of Development reviews and awards.

Mark Jeffries McWhirter Clinical Language Study Award - For student's expenses related to attending a clinical Spanish language immersion program.
     *
Student self-nominates; Counseling Psychology Department reviews and awards.

The Office of Development is currently working with master's programs to determine funding for prospective student campus visits to assist with recruiting. We will let you know to which programs those funds will be distributed as soon as possible, as recruitment season is getting underway!

Please note that this is the first year for many of these funding mechanisms in our effort to prioritize student success through recruiting, retaining, and readying College of Education students. Although donor funding is limited and often times restricted to specific uses, it is the Office of Development's intention to award and distribute donated funds equitably, efficiently, and enthusiastically to students. It is also our intention to demonstrate the impact of these funding mechanisms through storytelling, sustaining the ongoing investment in the success of our students.
