Hi folks! Happy spring!
I am writing to make you aware of the upcoming Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for faculty, staff, AND students.
I'm also hoping you could pass it along to your staff teams and any students you might be connected with. Registration is now open - sign up at this link. <Bit.Ly/UOASIST> We know this is a big commitment of our time, and we all have a role to play in community care, fostering other's sense of belonging and creating suicide safer communities. We hope you'll join us. This is the only training we are able to host this academic year due to financial and administrative constraints. While we hope to continue to host them to meet the well demonstrated need, we are not sure when the next one will be.
Saturday, June 1 and Sunday June 2, 9:00 - 5:00 both days (with an hour lunch break) in Global Scholars Hall 131
(We know that weekends can be hard to swing, so I encourage folks to request to flex time if able, and also know that these skills can be impactful in all facets of your life.)
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop.
Learning Goals and Objectives
Over the course of their two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:
* Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
* Provide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
* Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
* Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
* Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
Workshop features:
* Presentations and guidance from two LivingWorks registered trainers
* A scientifically proven intervention model
* Powerful audiovisual learning aids
* Group discussions
* Skills practice and development
* A balance of challenge and safety
We will have snacks and coffee, but unfortunately, we are not able to provide lunch. Participants should plan to bring a lunch or eat somewhere nearby. (We will have 1 hour lunch breaks both days.)
Please feel free to share this opportunity with other colleagues - this training is open to faculty, staff and students and is a great professional development opportunity. You can copy and paste everything above and just delete this sentence!
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
cheers,
hannah

If you receive correspondence from me during a time that you're engaging in any of those, please protect your time and wait to respond until you're next working or in front of a computer. Prioritize joy, not email, when and where you can. In an effort to model this, I will respond to your email as I am able.
I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a Dreamer Ally, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals.
