Dear College of Education Community,

Welcome back to another school year! Campus is bustling and it is fun to see so many of you back in HEDCO, Lokey Education, and our beautiful education complex. I hope you’ll join us tomorrow for the annual College of Education Dean’s Welcome Lunch. I look forward to kicking off the year with community-building and an opportunity to connect with students and colleagues. Please read all the way to the bottom….this one’s jam-packed with info.

Let’s have a great year!

Warmly,

Laura Lee

Updates and Upcoming:

Latinx Heritage Month

Latinx Heritage Month<https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/latinx-heritage-month> celebrates rich contributions and diverse cultures of Americans with roots in Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, Central, and South America. At UO, we honor this important heritage September 15 - October 15.

UO Mentorship Activities

Consistent with some of the college’s recent queries, the UO is hosting Mentorship Reimagined<https://provost.uoregon.edu/mentorship-reimagined>, a series of mentorship related opportunities designed to support mentorship efforts in a variety of ways. Consider attending or sending a representative to gather resources at one or more of the events scheduled for October 2nd 2023.

GEO Faculty Study Abroad Proposals

The GEO team is here to help UO colleges, schools, and departments create enriching global education experiences. We collaborate closely with faculty, site directors, and staff abroad to ensure seamless integration with your curriculum and cultural strengths. Don't miss out - Winter and Spring 2025 program applications<https://geo.uoregon.edu/faculty-led-programs> are due October 15, 2023.

College of Education Online Pop-Up Store

Did you miss out on the chance to grab a COE shirt last winter? The COE Pop Up Store is reopening its virtual doors on Monday, September 25. In addition to polo shirts and office wear, we're introducing new t-shirts and cozy hoodies. Place your order from 9/25 to 10/9, and watch your inbox for details, including a link to the store and purchase information. Show your COE pride!

Convert Your UO Blogs WordPress Site to Cosmic V2

We encourage you to give your sites a new look with the new Cosmic V2 theme. This update includes the latest UO branding and accessibility improvements. Plus, it eliminates the need for the UO Banner and Footer plugin. Keep an eye out for an email from the UO Information Services team. If you're not listed as an owner but still manage a WordPress site - this update applies to you, too.

Reminders:

Week of Welcome

A friendly reminder! During move-in, there will be some adjustments<https://around.uoregon.edu/content/new-student-move-activities-will-change-traffic-parking-patterns> to traffic and parking. We're expecting about 4,500 students to arrive on Sept. 21 and 22. To make things smoother, Transportation Services<https://transportation.uoregon.edu/> recommends steering clear of the residence hall areas this week. You may want to explore options like remote work or using alternative transportation such as buses or bikes.

· Winter Meeting: Late Winter (Friday before finals, with exceptions).
