Dear COE community,
It’s mid-term, the coffee shop is buzzing, and the leaves are turning. As I write this, frozen rain and hail fall from sky. Summer is long gone and we’re fast approaching November. I know the global and national news continues to weigh heavy on so many of us. I encourage you to make room in your classrooms, your day-to-day encounters, and your conversations to check in with each other. Show care and support and create safe spaces for respectful and supportive dialogue.
Recently UO President Scholz sent out a message to campus about creating a culture of belonging<https://president.uoregon.edu/creating-culture-belonging>. I encourage you to join our shared efforts in creating and sustaining a culture that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus and makes space for all to belong and thrive. Be an active participant in the UO’s institutional priority-setting effort – UO Onward<https://onward.uoregon.edu/?utm_campaign=onward&utm_source=aal102523&utm_medium=email> – and share your voice, perspective, and ideas. Be a change maker in our COE and with our institutional priority setting.
Thank you for being a part of our community – a community that elevates others, serves our campus and community, and is committed to positive change.
Warmly,
Laura Lee

Reminders:
Unleashed Dogs
An unfortunate incident this week involving an unleashed dog in the COE courtyard prompts us to highlight university policies related to bringing animals onto campus<https://policies.uoregon.edu/vol-4-finance-administration-infrastructure/ch-5-public-safety-risk-services/animal-control>. In addition to outlining the circumstances under which animals may be present, the policy states that any animal that is on campus grounds must be leashed and under direct physical control. Note: the incident this week did not involve a service animal, which are welcome in their support to our students, faculty, and staff. Please ensure that your students and their visitors are also aware of this important information.
