Dear COE community,

Greetings and welcome to a short (and busy) week! I know each of us is busy with Week 9 "stuff", but I wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to our COE Communications team who has been busy creating opportunities for our faculty, staff, and students to shine. Thanks to Julia, Juls, and Emily! A recent example of this work involves our COE Comms team working with Central Communications to put together a media event showcasing our faculty who engage in research and teaching in the area of literacy. The COE is hosting a media event next week, which will be moderated panel that showcases the work of Sylvia Thompson, Audrey Lucero, Gina Biancarosa, Edward Olivos, and Lillian Durán. This event will be attended by a variety of media outlets, Oregon legislators, and K-12 leaders from across the state. Thank you to our team for creating this opportunity to discuss faculty expertise and comment on timely advances in literacy and educator preparation. This event intentionally draws on faculty from across programs and departments and brings our college together in support of educator preparation, research and implementation of best practices. I'm excited to share more with you after the event. In the meantime, connect with Sylvia, Audrey, Gina, Edward, or Lillian and show your support!

Updates and Upcoming:

  *   Ducks Give Update: With great excitement, we announce that our 2023 Ducks Give campaign successfully met all six of our challenges. Thanks to the overwhelming support of 152 gifts, we were able to raise a grand total of $168,048. This outstanding accomplishment includes unlocking $120,000 in challenge gifts to the College of Education with a total of $48,048 raised from individual donors on May 18th. This year we more than doubled our amount raised by individual contributions compared to 2022! It is with immense gratitude that we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff, faculty, students, and their loved ones who actively participated this year and made this Ducks Give one of our best yet.

  *   COE End of Year Picnic: Join faculty, staff, and family members for a picnic on Friday, June 9th in the HEDCO Courtyard following the faculty and staff meeting! From 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm, enjoy a menu that includes BBQ Beef and Beyond Meat sandwiches, whiskey peach beans, three bean salad, sun dried tomato pasta salad, sliced watermelon and ice cream, along with lemonade, beer and wine. Be prepared to show your skills at bocce or cornhole, too. Family members are invited to attend, but please RSVP by June 5th so we can get a count for food. On April 26, more than 100 tenure track and career faculty, academic leaders, and other stakeholders from across campus convened to recognize, learn about, make connections around, and provide input into our on-going inclusive recruitment and retention efforts.   *   Three of our COE staff received outstanding employee awards<https://hr.uoregon.edu/outstanding-employee-awards#info>. Award recipients are officers of administration and classified employees who embody the mission of the university, produce quality work, and consistently display characteristics valued and appreciated by coworkers. They are a reliable compass continually pointing the university in the direction of its goals and aspirations. This year's COE recipients include Jen Davis, Jody Ferguson, and Emily Johnson. Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann also received an honorable mention. Congratulations, to all, and thank you for exemplifying excellence on the job every day.
