Dear Faculty and Staff,

Welcome to spring term! I hope each of you had a chance to recharge last week and are off to a great start this week.

Our 2023 US News rankings are available today at US News Grad rankings story<https://around.uoregon.edu/content/uo-programs-again-rank-high-us-news-graduate-school-list> as are those for the University and other units on campus. As noted in the article, "The UO College of Education's special education program<https://education.uoregon.edu/sped> is ranked No. 3 in the nation for the 23rd year in a row and is No. 2 among public schools. The college's overall graduate program is ranked No. 7 among public institutions and No. 14 among all schools nationwide, a standing boosted in part due to the college's record-high year in funded research: $53.6 million." These rankings speak so highly of our faculty and staff and all the hard work you do every day.

The nomination process for department heads has been concluded and the appointments for next year's department heads have been made. I am excited to announce that Joanna Goode will serve as Department Head for EDST, Ben Clarke will serve for SPECS, and Leslie Leve for CPHS. In addition, Ellen McWhirter will serve in the role of Associate Department Head for Faculty Development for CPHS. I look forward to this new leadership team and all the work that lies ahead.

Joanna, Ben, and Leslie, each bring strong backgrounds to these important department leadership roles. They have experience directing centers or institutes, managing budgets, administering programs, and running large programs of sponsored research - including hiring staff and overseeing operations. Each new head shares a commitment to inclusion, equity, and shared governance with a keen eye toward growing our programs and collaborating across our various programs and units in the College of Education.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to our outgoing department heads who have served us well. Thank you to Jenefer Husman, Beth Harn, Keith Zvoch, and Beth Stormshak for your many excellent contributions. I look forward to continuing my work with our current group throughout the spring term and onboarding our new leaders in the summer.

Happy Spring term,

Laura Lee
