The following message is sent on behalf of COE Academic Affairs:

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Welcome to Spring 2022. We look forward to this new quarter with optimism.

As you saw from the University's most recent COVID update email, the University continues momentum towards a return to pre-pandemic operations and mask mandates were lifted at the end of the Winter quarter. As the COE moves in this direction, we will continue to identify ways to support our entire community. In addition to those enthusiastic about a return to pre-pandemic operations, we acknowledge those in our community who have concerns for themselves, vulnerable loved ones, and/or those still attempting to determine their personal relationship with this new phase.

The COE respects the entire spectrum of readiness and encourages faculty, staff, and students to work together to create an environment that is supportive and inclusive for all.

In particular we offer some specific recommendations for instructional faculty working with students in classroom settings:

  * Work collaboratively with AEC partners when contacted: Instructional faculty will likely continue to receive occasional requests through the Accessible Education Center (AEC) to provide accommodations for students with specific needs and concerns. Faculty receiving such requests are encouraged to work directly with the AEC towards determining a solution that supports the student's need while still maintaining the academic integrity of the student's educational program.

  * Follow attendance guidance provided: Instructional faculty may continue to see sporadic class absences for students who are ill or suspected ill. While multiple absences at once and/or over the course of the quarter can be disruptive to student learning and faculty capacity, faculty are urged to continue to follow the university guidance provided here https://provost.uoregon.edu/spring-2022-academic-council-expectations (in particular, the section on "Attendance and Makeups" and "Options for students not able to meet course expectations"

  * Communicate clearly and consult with ADAA when in doubt: Last week, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs shared some specific guidance and syllabus template language (email attached) that can provide advance clarity for students and faculty alike as we all enter this phase. When in doubt, please don't hesitate to reach out to Lillian Durán or the Office of the Dean with questions so that we can identify consistent ways forward for our community.

Best
