Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that John Seeley, Ph.D., professor of Special Education and Clinical Sciences and core faculty member in the Prevention Science program, will serve as the new Associate Dean for Research effective July 1. John’s research interests include emotional and behavioral disorders, school-based mental health intervention, research design and program evaluation, and digital health technology. A prolific researcher, John has over 250 co-authored journal articles to his credit and has served as PI, co-PI, or research methodologist on 70 externally funded grants and projects.

Kathleen Scalise, our Interim Associate Dean for Research, has served our research and outreach units with distinction this past year. I’ve learned much from her. Please join me in expressing our collective gratitude for Kathleen’s contributions.

  *   College of Education Dean's Distinguished Lecture: Dominique Baker, PhD: Please consider joining the College of Education Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series for the presentation “Hate Crimes and Black College Student Enrollmen.t” Dr. Baker, is an Assistant Professor of Education Policy in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. The virtual presentation will be held on Tuesday, June 1 from 11am-12:30pm and you can register HERE.<https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bsjnArFGaiDeSRo> Dominique Baker’s research focuses on the way that education policy affects and shapes the access and success of minoritized students in higher education. She primarily investigates student financial aid, affirmative action and admissions policies, and policies that influence the ability to create an inclusive & equitable campus climate. She is the 2021 Association for Education Finance & Policy Early Career Award winner, in recognition of the impact and promise of her scholarly career. Her work and expertise have been highlighted by The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Inside Higher Ed, among others. She earned her PhD in education policy from Vanderbilt University and her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Virginia.

Accolades:


  *   Laura Lee McIntyre has been selected to receive the American Psychological Association (APA)’s 2021 Division 16 (school psychology) Tom Oakland Mid-Career Scholarship Award. One award is given each year, to a professional and academic school psychologist who is 7 to 20 years post-graduation and has “demonstrated scholarship that merits special recognition”. The prospect for continuing contributions to scholarship is the primary consideration in making the award. Congratulations, Laura Lee, and well deserved!
