Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am writing this email without Dr. Julie Wren’s knowledge or consent, because she deserves our deepest gratitude and recognition for five years of leadership and toil that has led us to this week’s successful accreditation site visit. Good leader that she is, Julie is giving credit for this success to all of you. She, for example, crafted the note below for my signature. I, too, am fully aware of every one of your contributions to this monumental task and am deeply grateful.
Five-plus years is a long time to stay the course when there are daily, sometimes hourly, challenges that could easily knock one off course. Julie, undaunted, never submitted to the challenges. We will never know whether or not we would have succeeded without her leadership. I submit, however, that If there is ever a need for an example of the importance of academic leadership, Julie is exemplar.
Nice work, Julie! On behalf of all of us, please accept A BIG THANK YOU!
Randy

Dear Colleagues:
Yesterday marked the final step in our bid to become a nationally accredited educator preparation provider. Our three-day site visit with the AAQEP was an opportunity for a community of practitioners and scholars to collectively reflect on educator preparation within the College of Education. The quality review team met with faculty, students, alumni, cooperating teachers, principals, representatives from the Tribal Advisory Council, and district leaders, among other stakeholders to validate our quality assurance report. Each of our stakeholder groups shared openly and honestly with our quality review team and we thank you for your candor.
While the final accreditation report will not be available until June, yesterday’s exit meeting provided us with confidence that we are well-positioned to achieve national accreditation. Although we look forward to this achievement, accreditation is a process and we are eager to learn how we can improve to better serve our students, Oregon’s children, and the broader education field. It is opportunities like this that allow us to reflect, do better, and, ultimately, strengthen our programs.
This accreditation is truly a testament to the work of our entire educational community. We are grateful for the dozens of members of our community who participated in the accreditation process, and above all to our faculty and staff in the College of Education’s educator preparation programs who have been working toward this goal since SB 78 was enacted in July 2015.
We hope that you enjoy a restful weekend and look forward to our continued work together.
