Subject: coe-fac: College of Education Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee
Dear Faculty and Staff,
Over the past year, a dedicated group of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion volunteers has worked with me in my role as Director for Equity and Inclusion towards the submission of our mandated reports and on the beginnings of a COE climate survey. Like many other similar groups in the college, over the summer, this group reconvened and met regularly to continue impacting the college's equity goals.
As we enter into the new school year and the college jointly renews its commitment to our priorities of equity and racial awareness, Dean Kamphaus wanted to acknowledge the past and ongoing work of this group, and encourage the momentum already underway to the benefit of the whole college community.
The group is engaged in the development of an action-oriented equity framework directed to:
* Improving the climate and culture within the College of Education
* Supporting and mobilizing the expertise within the college community towards a college-wide equity focus
* Ensuring that our students, faculty, and staff from typically underrepresented races, cultures, abilities, and ethnicities have full access to the supports, mentorship, and advocacy, and freedom from discrimination enjoyed by all members of our college community.
To engage in this work fully, Dean Kamphaus will be elevating this group to the status of an Ad Hoc committee and would like to reopen membership prior to the next meeting. I will be soliciting additional nominees in the coming week.
The designation of this or any group or framework is not the sole solution to repairing systemic fissures in our college's equity structure, instead this marks an opportunity for all of us to engage in the work ahead. Regardless of the final formal membership of this group, I look forward to myriad of ways we will be engaging in this work together towards systemic, durable change.
With gratitude to:
* James Sinclair
* Kent McIntosh
* Jessica Cronce
* Carmen Cybula
* Julie Heffernan
* Jerry Rosiek
* Jennifer Meyer
* Leilani Saez
For their work over the past year and moving forward.
Dianna
