Dear Faculty and Staff,

Assuming that it may be difficult for many to concentrate on matters other than the election, I will be brief.

Updates and Upcoming:

  * The SDS Network<https://blogs.uoregon.edu/sdsnetwork/> is hosting its next colloquium on November 20, 2020 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Dr. Min Sun will present; Using a Text-as-Data Approach to Understand Reform Processes: A Deep Exploration of School Improvement Strategies. Dr. Min Sun is Associate Professor of Education Policy and the Director of the Education Policy Analytics Lab at the University of Washington. She specializes in economics of education, educator labor markets and effectiveness, school accountability and improvement, and school finance policies. Reminders:

  * The Teaching Engagement Program blog continues to be updated with new resources for faculty and GE instructors, including timely resources for teaching through the election https://blogs.uoregon.edu/keepteaching/2020/10/20/teaching-and-the-election/

Accolades:

  * KinderTEK, NumberShire, and ESCOLAR are featured among only 20 programs nationally in the Ready Now Guide<https://www.educationmodified.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ReadyNow.SpecialEducation.9.1.20.pdf?utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_name=&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term=> to evidence-based digital curricula. KinderTEK is led by Dr. Mari Strand Cary, NumberShire by Drs. Hank Fien, Nancy Nelson-Fien, and Lina Shanley, and ESCOLAR by Dr. Fatima Elvira Terrazas-Arellanes. That’s impressive UO COE representation! Congratulations to all who contributed to these multi-year, complex, and breakthrough projects.

  * I recommend the recent Around the O<https://around.uoregon.edu/content/covid-19-added-isolation-among-families-facing-autism?utm_source=UOnews> article featuring Dr. Laura Lee McIntyre’s 16-week National Institutes of Health-funded study of families in Oregon and California with children affected by autism. Dr. McIntyre’s work highlights how the work shifted and expanded during the COVID 19 pandemic. The work provides a cogent description of timely work conducted by a skilled researcher.

  * Congratulations to Dr. Wendy Machalicek for being selected to serve a three year term as Co-Editor of the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions. Along with Mandy Rispoli at Purdue University, their term begins January 1, 2021.

Stay well,

Randy
