Dear Faculty and Staff,

We know you are receiving numerous messages related to Academic Continuity and the health crisis from the University. You are urged to read those messages carefully and continue to follow the guidance that is coming to us from Central.

In the coming days the college’s Academic Continuity team will share any specific college-level messaging that will be relevant to our units based on a consolidated review of the information and our college’s specific needs and establish a consistent means of communication on this topic.

In the short term however, please note that today faculty received the following guidance. Please read: https://provost.uoregon.edu/academic-continuity-planning-expectations-and-guidelines

In addition, this afternoon, we received the following general information to pass along:

1. Use the web form here to register concerns, problems, questions and suggestions: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/2920fb6d403f437989053a3eacb8bad9.

2. Some spring study abroad courses have been canceled leaving students left scrambling to find courses on campus for spring term. Some of these students are in need of specific credits in order to graduate. Please look closely at course caps and, where possible, try to accommodate these students.

3. Instructors (Faculty and GEs) should avoid asking individual students to leave class due to suspicion of illness.

     * Instructors should make a general announcement to the class that any students who are ill should not come to class, that there will be options to continue with course work online, and that they will not be penalized for missing class.
     * If an instructor believes there is a risk because of the observable symptoms of an individual student, they should consult with their department head for guidance.
     * If instructors themselves are ill or otherwise need to miss class, they should follow normal procedures for making sure the class continues either with replacement instructors or short term remote instruction through Canvas

Dianna
