Dear All,

We have heard from many of you regarding your advanced planning for Fall Events, and Return to Campus expectations. This email addresses both of these items for the College of Education.

Fall events:
(a) Events: (this applies to: Dean's welcome luncheon, and any other summer or orientation events for programs and departments regardless of size of gathering)

As of today we are unable to pre-arrange any events in the COE:
1. UO catering has informed us that they are operating on reduced-capacity staff and will be prioritizing University events and residence halls until the staff-capacity is returned to normal.
2. Due to social distancing guidelines that will be in effect, the College of Education complex now only has one high-capacity room (a room able to accommodate a group of 49 people).
3. Adequate supplies of personal protective equipment are not expected to be available until at least mid-August.
Based on these limitations, as of today, we are not in a position to plan for in-person orientation events for the week of welcome, September 21-25. All programs are advised to plan for online orientation activities until further notice for Fall 2020. While this information may change later in the summer when the University has clarity on their services personnel, for now, all programs planning Fall orientations should engage in planning for those orientations to occur online. Distance/remote planning for all events in the Fall will be a critical part of all program planning as many students may still have limitations preventing them from attending on-campus events.
(b) Cross-Program Events:

Additionally, this year's Oregon's Mandatory Reporting Law will be fully online. The training will still be provided by staff from the Oregon Department of Human Services on Thursday, September 24, and will be streamed synchronously and made available asynchronously.

 Return to campus planning:

We are aware that some program directors may have received a Return to Campus toolkit for your program or department to complete and submit for approval before the Fall. Please do not submit those to the dean's office for review until you have received the COE-specific toolkit that will be developed in the next two weeks in consultation with individual programs (Department Heads and/or Program Directors). The COE-specific toolkit will specify how students, faculty, and staff in programs and departments will return to the College of Education complex. Programs will then use this information to refine their program-specific activities and complete program/department specific toolkits (as necessary) by July 15th. (Programs/Departments may also choose to adopt the COE toolkit).

Until the COE Return to Campus plan is in place, the following guidelines will continue to apply:

  * All programs will continue to operate under fully remote operation guidelines they have followed this spring through the summer.
  * All instructors should plan their entire Fall curriculum and coursework with an option for remote delivery as some students may still have limitations that prevent them from attending on-campus.
  * Any individuals with needs on campus, should continue to complete the smartsheet (linked here: smartsheet<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/app.smartsheet.com/b/form/f20186e0a5fb4a168573545db41fee04__;!!C5qS4YX3!XL5D-KqpnNUS6Z3DFfMiOmyXDUYzqMQugx8zMaPx-z_RHRXPVsCwWFx7YBQRVaa_dQ$>) until further notice.
We will provide updates as they become available this month.

Best,
Dianna
