coe-staff: Gratitude for Professor Jerry Tindal's work as EMPL Department Head

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to express my, and our college’s collective gratitude for Jerry’s work as Department Head. Keith Zvoch officially adopted EMPL Department Head responsibilities last month. The Department Head role has often been identified as one of the most challenging leadership positions in higher education. I concur.

Jerry (JT to some) took on the EMPL leadership role at an inflection point in the department’s history. Competition for students from local institutions was fierce, enrollments were not robust, and academic programs needed to be substantially revised, or begun anew due to external regulatory forces. Jerry worked with great urgency these past two years to address these challenges and opportunities, and more, make both a key career-track and tenure-related faculty hire, and bring faculty together to collaborate more effectively. These are impressive accomplishments.

Jerry is not leaving us. He will continue to serve as Director of the BRT research unit, teach courses, and mentor students. Please do thank Jerry for his good work when you see him.
