coe-staff: Welcome back!

Dear College of Education Students,

I am so pleased to see some of you getting acquainted with our buildings, participating in orientation sessions, and reading in the HEDCO coffee shop. Yes, the Education Station coffee shop is open, the fireplace is ready, and the HEDCO Learning Commons if available for your use. We, however, are trying every year to do an even better job of easing your transition to campus, whether it be your first time, or beyond.

I'll provide you with some tips for navigating your first few days.

  1.  Get the app, please! : https://safety.uoregon.edu/UOregon-App The UO App, developed by students for students, is your guide to services, locations, and people on campus. I still frequently rely on the included campus map, five years into my tenure here.
  2.  Stop by HEDCO Room 130 and meet staffers in our Student Services office, which is directly behind the coffee shop. Here you will find a friendly peer who is willing to guide you around the CoE complex of buildings. They can orient you to the many buildings and entrances that you will soon know well - in addition to the large, "new" HEDCO Building, there are four Lokey buildings and the Clinical Services building that flank both sides of HEDCO.
  3.  Stop any staff or faculty member you encounter to pose your questions. We will also be posting some easily identified staffers near the entrances to our buildings to assist you during the first few days of classes.
Finally, please introduce yourself and ask me questions as I wander throughout the buildings during the first few days of classes, or thereafter. I'm pretty easy to spot, but here is my faculty web site should you need a "visual" https://education.uoregon.edu/people/faculty/randyk.

I look forward to seeing you at our student welcome luncheon this Thursday - yes two days from today - on the HEDCO plaza. It's going to be a great year of learning and teaching, pushing the boundaries of knowledge, and doing good work for our many communities - for all of us.
