The following message is sent on behalf of Dean Randy Kamphaus:

Dear Colleagues,

In the fall of 2020, the College of Education will be opening a centrally located undergraduate advising center in the student services suite in HEDCO 130. This decision is based on months of discussions with our undergraduate advisors, feedback from our student surveys about how advising could be improved, as well as coordination and consultation with the UO Student Success Initiative. We have also had the opportunity to learn from the recent changes instituted in Tykeson Hall, and from our peers' advising experiences in Lundquist College of Business and the School of Journalism and Communication. Moving to the HEDCO 130 Suite will also allow the college to coordinate student scholarships, educator licensure, and Tk20 support in one location, thus providing a one-stop-shop for current and prospective students, and alumni.

To help ensure a successful launch of the undergraduate advising center, we have asked current CoE advisor, Christi Boyter, to guide this transition. Christi has been working as a professional advisor in the Family and Human Services Program for over 8 years. Her commitment to the program, our college and our students has not gone unnoticed - Christi is consistently praised as one of the best advisors on campus in our Graduating Student Survey. Additionally, over the 2018-2019 academic year, Christi contributed to the successful launch of Tykeson Hall by serving on the search committee for the new academic and career advisors. This knowledge of the state of advising in the CoE, the future direction of the university and what we hope to achieve will help guide Christi as she works with both academic and university leadership to re-envision the use of the HEDCO 130 space and advising staff, to create a cohesive advising center for the college.

We deeply value the input we have received about this decision from our undergraduate students, Dean's Student Advisory Board, professional advising team, undergraduate program directors, Department Heads, and Faculty Advisory Board. We are looking forward to the development of an advising space that will align with the strategic vision of the university while continuing to provide excellent service to our students.

We appreciate Christi's willingness to guide this work.

Regards,

Randy
