The following message is shared on behalf of Dean Randy Kamphaus:
Dear Faculty,

Information about the 2020 Institutional Hiring Plan (IHP) is now available on the Office of the Provost (OtP) website at https://provost.uoregon.edu/ay2020-21-institutional-hiring-plan. The 2020 IHP launch was announced campus-wide on October 29th, 2019.

Below, I am putting forward the process that we engaged last year to solicit and evaluate proposals for new tenure-related faculty hires from academic program area faculty. Our schedule is,

1. Faculty will submit a brief "concept proposal" to their academic department heads by December 2, 2019. Proposals should be responsive to the priorities of the college as outlined in our 2017 strategic framework, the needs of our programs related to addressing areas of need and areas of growth, and to the priorities, operational, and research metrics available on the IHP website https://provost.uoregon.edu/institutional-metrics. As reminder, our COE strategic priorities are:

* Accelerate our faculty and student research, scholarship, and knowledge creation. Utilize our preeminent research tradition to conduct and advance translational research that positively transforms and impacts society.
* Transform students' ability to critically evaluate and engage in science-based practices to support and improve educational and social service settings locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
* Collaborate with communities of practice (schools, social and human service agencies) through research and outreach that enhances our impact, while addressing critical societal needs. Increase our interdisciplinary reach by working with other researchers at the UO and other educational institutions.
* Grow and expand a culture of equity, respect, and inclusion. Build on individual differences to frame the questions we ask and the practices we adopt in enhancing inclusion and access for all.
* Partner with our University to create a financial model that ensures and sustains a successful research infrastructure to enhance our college.

2. Academic department heads will review and evaluate all concept paper submissions against the priorities and metrics, and identify overlapping and synergistic proposals by December 11, 2019.

3. Approved IHP "concepts" will be returned to academic program area faculty with a request to develop full proposals (using the template form https://provost.uoregon.edu/ay2020-21-institutional-hiring-plan#template) for submission to the IHP by January 10, 2020.

4. Department heads will evaluate the full proposals, and provide a priority ranking to me by January 20, 2020.

5. I will submit a final ranked list of proposals for submission to the IHP by the OtP deadline of February 7, 2020.

Thanks, everyone, for your participation. I look forward to reading your proposals and to another opportunity to add new colleagues to our ranks.

Regards,

Randy
