coe-staff: COE Events Calendar Update

Hello,
Below is our COE events calendar update for Fall term.
We hope you will join us on Thursday, November 7th, 2019 at 2:00pm in the EMU Ballroom, to recognize and celebrate, the College of Education's 50-year journey since the arrival of Project Follow Through in 1969. Our distinguished and engaging speakers plan to tell the interesting story of then and now, and will be making some exciting connections between the work that started at the time of Woodstock and the work we are engaged in today. Please note that there has been a change to the date of the end of term Faculty and Staff meeting and the Holiday Party.  The Faculty and Staff meeting will now take place on Monday, December 9 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in Clinical Services Building 250.  The Holiday Party will take place after that from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm in HEDCO 220.
If there are events you would like to add to this calendar, all you need to do is set up the event as a meeting on your own outlook calendar and invite coeevents at uoregon.edu<mailto:coeevents at uoregon.edu> to the event.  You will receive a confirmation that the event has been added.

The College of Education at the University of Oregon is birthplace to a host of nationally and internationally impactful educational programs, products, and practices. Project Follow-Through, a project dedicated to the (then) revolutionary concept that all students can learn, was once considered the most extensive educational experiment. Follow-Through and its group of intrepid young researchers arrived at the University of Oregon's doors in 1969 and would shape the tone and pave the culture for generations of researchers to follow.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Project Follow-Through, the University of Oregon's College of Education will host a panel of renowned experts to discuss the 50-year culture of research in the college. The panel will discuss the research history that was born from Project Follow-Through, its impact on educational pedagogy, its national and international reach, and its impact on the face of education overall.

Speakers include Doug Carnine, David Chard, Beth Harn, Colt Gill, and Russell Gersten

Please join us for a colloquium titled, "Discovering Native Histories along the Lewis and Clark Trail," presented by Dr. Stephanie Wood.

The Director of a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute, Dr. Stephanie Wood of the Center for Equity Promotion, will discuss her fully immersive, educational road trip with 25 school teachers from across the United States. The group visited with elders and Native educators in reservations, state and national parks, museums, and tribal colleges along part of the Lewis and Clark Trail, all with the goal to gain a better understanding of Indigenous points of view on the occupation of the West by Euro-Americans and our shared history. She will also discuss the foundation for the institute, a 10-year curriculum project, Honoring Tribal Legacies, that is just beginning its 10th year of funding from the National Park Service. The results of these endeavors may be of interest to teachers in training and current teachers in Oregon who are working to provide the Native American experience to their students.
