Dear colleagues,
The time has come again! During the month of February, University of Oregon will again participate in the Governor's State Employees Food Drive, and I'm writing with ways you can get involved.
The Governor's State Employees Food Drive<https://www.oregon.gov/fooddrive/Pages/index.aspx> was founded in 1982, when then-governor Vic Atiyeh saw that state employees have a role to play in supporting those in the community who need help. Last year alone, state employees donated more than 2.5 million meals and approximately 90,000 of those meals came from the generous giving of University of Oregon employees. The food drive also complements UO's efforts to address food security issues on our own campus, which you can learn more about at https://dos.uoregon.edu/food
There are many ways to participate:
* Purchase popcorn and chocolate-see me for an order form
* Donate online: https://fundraise.foodforlanecounty.org/UOGovDrive --create a team, challenge another department, or just do a one-time donation
* Drop a few dollars into the money jar on the front desk
* Donate via payroll deduction-see me for a form
* Participate in a bake sale, or get one started with my help!
* Bring in non-perishable food items for our barrel, which is located in the HEDCO Lobby
Cash is the best thing you can give, because one dollar from you gives Food for Lane County the buying power of three dollars. And because of a generous donor, every dollar raised in the month of February will be matched, up to $100,000. So your cash (or online) donation goes twice as far this month. In February, $1 from you is the equivalent of $6 for FFLC-think of how much good you are doing for the community!
A new feature this year is a special student food pantry donation day on Thursday, February 21. This is only for online donations, no other donations qualify for this initiative.
* The date will be Thursday, February 21 (only)
* The initiative will be called "Feed the Flock Day"
* On this date an option will appear in the online form to designate your donation to go to the student pantry.
Stay tuned for more information!
I will be sharing information throughout the month, and you'll see stories in Around the O. If you have any questions, just ask!
