Dear Faculty and Staff,
It is my pleasure to announce the College of Education's latest Institutional Hiring Plan (IHP) faculty hires.
We have completed all hiring associated with our IHP for the year, inclusive of two hires that were proposed for future years - Priorities 4. Prevention and Health Promotion with Latinx Populations (Assistant Professor), and 7. Behavioral Data Science and School Equity (Assistant Professor). In other words, we exceeded our hiring goals by a total of three tenure-related faculty hires. Allow me to explain.
As I announced earlier, our approved hires include:
· Wendy S. Hadley, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Counseling Psychology and Human Services
Julie and Keith Thomson Endowed Chair and HEDCO Clinic Director
· Bertranna Alero Muruthi, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Counseling Psychology and Human Services, Couples and Family Therapy Program
· Geovanna Rodriguez, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences
We also added a partner and target of opportunity hire:
· James R. Muruthi, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Counseling Psychology and Human Services
In order to assist the university during this challenging fiscal year, and to use our faculty resources wisely, we withdrew our request for position #4 from the current IHP (See my February 8 IHP memorandum attached). Geovanna Rodriguez will fill this instructional need, in part, by offering one of the courses required for the Spanish-language specialization in CPHS.
Finally, Provost Jayanth Banavar has additionally supported our request for position #7, but not through an IHP-approved search. Instead, we used the target of opportunity mechanism to appoint one of our own-Rhonda Nese, Assistant Professor, Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences.
Rhonda's work fits squarely with this position description, especially with her newest IES grant, which positions her well to address issues of equity as informed by knowledge gleaned from large data sets. The particulars of Rhonda's newest grant are:
Development of an Instructional Alternative to Out-of-School Suspension
IES Total Award:$1,399,962
Starting Date:07/01/2018
Ending Date:06/30/2021
These hires represent a remarkable achievement for our college. Our faculty, staff and student search committee members, department heads, the Office of the Provost, and other collaborators worked with urgency, efficacy, and strategically to allow us to continue to build out the depth, breadth, and diversity of our faculty.
We have only one more offer pending. That career-track faculty member will be charged with expanding the prevention science master's degree program to UO Portland. I will let you know the status of that offer when we get an answer.
With deepest appreciation to all who helped make this a successful year.
Randy
