Dr. Erik Carter will be presenting "What Matters Most: Supporting Successful Transitions for Youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities" on April 25th from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm in HEDCO 230T.

Erik Carter, PhD, is Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Special Education at Vanderbilt University and a member of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. His research and teaching focuses on evidence-based strategies for supporting inclusion and valued roles in school, work, community, and congregational settings for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. He has received several awards for his research including the Patricia Sitlington Research Award from the Division on Career Development and Transition, and the Research Award from CEC's Division on Autism & Developmental Disabilities.

Like anyone else, young people with disabilities want to enjoy a good life-a meaningful job, a comfortable home, vital social relationships and much more. Professionals, families, and community members can each play a powerful role in supporting ordinary aspirations to become a reality.
This presentation will highlight evidence-based systems change projects that produce and support successful transitions to adult life. Moreover, it will emphasize how the perspectives we hold, the postures we adopt, and the practices we prioritize can bend the trajectories of youth with disabilities toward a future of flourishing.
