coe-staff: 15 new masters degree student recruitment scholarships

Dear Faculty,

I am pleased to announce the availability of 15 masters degree student recruitment scholarships.  Each scholarship includes an award of $8,000 for a maximum of one academic year.  These scholarships are awarded by our academic program area faculty at the time of admission to help recruit the most highly qualified students to our masters programs.

Recruitment scholarships were made available to masters degree programs based on donor gift agreement stipulations (e.g., some scholarships specific academic programs and financial need), current academic program enrollments and applicant pools (e.g., large programs with the potential to grow further), and licensure area personnel shortages (e.g., secondary teachers, special educators, speech pathologists, etc.) (See award allocations attached and below).

In order to make student recruitment more efficient and effective, our Development group has created a procedure for making these awards that involves completion of a simple form.  The only requirement is that nominees be approved by the Office of Development before any offers to candidates can be made.  This is a new opportunity for us, so we are likely to learn some lessons that will improve the process next year.
