Below is our COE calendar update for Fall term.  Don't forget our Faculty Staff meeting tomorrow from 1 - 3 pm in HEDCO 220.  Light refreshments will be served.

If there are events you would like to add to this calendar, all you need to do is set up the event as a meeting on your own outlook calendar and invite coeevents at uoregon.edu<mailto:coeevents at uoregon.edu> to the event.  You will receive a confirmation that the event has been added.

See the attached flyer for information about a presentation by Dr. Eric Turkheimer, Hugh Scott Hamilton Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, on "Individual and group differences in behavior: Genetics, psychology, and philosophy".

The talk will be held Thursday October 4th from 12 - 1:30 in the Lease Crutcher Lewis Room in the EMU, and a light lunch will be served.

In addition to being known for his methodological expertise, Dr. Turkheimer is funded by the John Templeton Foundation to study genetics and human agency. His research and thinking cuts across psychology, education, genetics, philosophy, and methodology and he often poses interesting, somewhat provocative ideas.

We are pleased to announce a colloquium series talk by Dr. Robert Goldstone, held in Straub 245 on October 5, 2018 at 2:30pm. The title of the talk is

Training Perception and Action to Do the Right Thing

Dr. Goldstone is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University. His talk will focus on Interactions between perception and concepts, but his work also includes topics on collective behavior, such as group consequences of individual decisions, as well as educational applications of cognitive research, topics relevant to many in the department and beyond. Dr. Goldstone uses both experimental and computational modeling approaches.

As part of EMPL's newly approved LEADS (Leadership + Administrative Skills) minor for UO undergraduates, three colloquia will be held this fall exploring leadership in the community, leadership in organizations, and leadership in the university. Sponsored by the Baney Fund Speaker Series (see poster attached), the first colloquium on October 9 will host Dr. Ryan Cabinte, Program Manager for the Center for Sustainable Business Practices in the UO Lundquist College of Business. Dr. Cabinte will speak on the theme of leadership in organizations and discuss his leadership journey, including his work in mentoring young professionals in careers.
