Yanchen Zhang will be presenting her Colloquium titled “Streamlining the Process of Assessment to Intervention for Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Needs in Schools: IM4 and Its Adaptation” at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, November 28th in HEDCO 340.
Mr. Zhang Bio
Yanchen Zhang is a doctoral candidate in the School Psychology Program at the University of Minnesota (UMN). He received his M.Ed. from the University of Washington and then transferred to UMN with his advisor to complete his Ph.D. He is an international student from China who majored in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Computer Science. Yanchen Zhang’s current research interests include school-based mental health practices, implementation science, international school psychology, and innovative technologies to facilitate the translation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) into routine practice in the schools. He is motivated to conduct applied research employing rigorous methods and advanced statistics to develop, evaluation, and study the implementation of practical and effective tools and interventions to inform efforts to promote the social, emotional and behavioral well-being of students. He has several peer-reviewed publications and national and international presentations. Yanchen currently is completing an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Loudoun County Public Schools, Virginia, which serves a culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse student population.
Colloquium Abstract
Despite the growing body of evidence-based practices to inform intervention programming within a multi-tiered systems of support, research does not offer clear guidance for practitioners about how best to select appropriate interventions for students with identified social, emotional, and behavioral needs and coordinate each step of the process in a systematic and data-driven way (Miller, Cook, & Zhang, 2017; Hawken et al., 2009). This presentation will discuss the development, evaluation and implementation of IM4 (Intervention Match, Map, Monitor, and Meet) which is a problem-solving system that coordinates intervention programming from beginning to end for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The presentation will focus on (1) the preliminary studies examining the feasibility, acceptability, appropriateness, and effectiveness of IM4 when compared to paper/pencil, piecemealed approaches to intervention programming, (2) the cross-cultural adaption of IM4 in China, and (3) the digitalization of IM4 into an automated online implementation platform to facilitate the successful use and integration of evidence-based assessment and intervention practices as part of a coordinated intervention programming process.
