Dear Campus Community:
On behalf of a joint Administration-Senate ad hoc committee, we are seeking input on draft revisions to the "Conflict of Interest, Potential" policy, which has been renamed the "Conflict of Interest, Conflict of Commitment, and Outside Activities" policy.
The goals of this revision effort are to make the policy easier to understand, make it easier for employees to obtain approval to engage in outside activities, and ensure that the policy aligns with state law. This policy applies to all employees.
The draft policy can be found here<http://research1.uoregon.edu/conflict-interest-policy-draft>.
For your reference, you can find the current policy here<https://policies.uoregon.edu/policy/by/1/09-research/conflicts-interest-potential>.
Please provide comments via this link <https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3yG6WF77Lo7p96R> by Wednesday, November 21.
You may also send comments via email to vpri at uoregon.edu<mailto:vpri at uoregon.edu>.
If you would like to provide comments in person, please attend an Open House, which will be held on Friday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the EMU 023 Lease Crutcher Room.
Background: After developing an initial discussion draft during AY 2018, there were a series of meetings to gain input as well as the opportunity to provide written input via Qualtrics. Over the summer, the University and Senate presidents charged an ad hoc committee to further revise the policy. That committee met in September and October 2018 to develop this draft. The committee is now seeking public input on the draft. After considering input, the ad hoc committee will submit the revised draft policy to University President Schill and Senate President Harbaugh no later than December 15, 2018.
Thank you for any time you are able to put into reviewing and commenting on this policy.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Moseley, ad hoc committee co-chair
Sr. Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation and Research Professor, Institute for a Sustainable Environment
Elizabeth Skowron, ad hoc committee co-chair
Senate Vice President and Professor, College of Education
