Join UO faculty experts as our campus community prepares for the 2018-2019 UO Common Reading: Thi Bui’s The Best We Could Do. A national bestseller, The Best We Could Do was also recently selected by UCLA for its 2018 common book program.

This visually and narratively rich graphic novel offers an evocative memoir about the search for a better future in seeking to understand the past. The Best We Could Doinvites campus conversations about immigration, war, imperialism and refugee status as well as parenthood, pursuit of self-identity in a continually changing sociocultural structure, and the insights of honest personal struggle.

A panel of UO faculty – Lynn Fujiwara (Ethnic Studies), Tara Fickle (English), Charlene Liu b(Art+Design), Shoshana Kerewsky (Education), and Tuong Vu (Political Science) will share contexts for reading, teaching, and thinking about Bui’s work and the issues it raises.
