coe-staff: Appointment of Professor Martinez

Dear Faculty and Staff,
I write this morning to inform you that another of our colleagues has been recruited for a Deanship at a highly accomplished research university.  Professor Charles Martinez, has accepted a position as Dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas, Austin.  He will begin his new appointment in January 2019.
Over his more than 20-year tenure at the University of Oregon, Charles has demonstrated his leadership in numerous capacities ranging from his role as Department Head, his role as member and chair of the State Board of Education for the State of Oregon, his role as Director of the Center for Equity Promotion (CEQP), as well as numerous other leadership appointments locally and across the nation.
Charles's departure will leave a hole in the college's and the university's leadership ranks. His commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity that has crossed international borders will be missed.
UT Austin will benefit from Charles's record of teaching, research, and service leadership that he amassed here at the UO, and I'm confident that the UT College of Education will thrive during Charles's tenure as dean.
UT Austin will be announcing Charles's appointment today.  Please do take a moment to join me in congratulating Charles on this significant accomplishment.  I wish him, his family, and his colleagues well.
