Here is a calendar update for the upcoming term  Please note we have an upcoming faculty and staff meeting from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Friday, October 6.  Immediately prior to this meeting, from noon - 1 pm, Aaron Montoya will be available to take free headshots for those staff who are new or need to update their photos.
If there are events you would like to add to this calendar, all you need to do is set up the event as a meeting on your own outlook calendar and invite coeevents at uoregon.edu<mailto:coeevents at uoregon.edu> to the event.  You will receive a confirmation that the event has been added.

What You Say Matters: Parents' Role in Reducing Risks Associated with Substance Abuse by Their College Students

First-year students on any college campus face peer pressure to drink alcohol and engage in risky behaviors. Jessica Cronce of the Department of Family and Human Services studies these risks and works directly with students on science-based interventions.

What can parents (and their friends) do? Cronce will lay out the issues and suggest ways that parents can effectively communicate, as soon as possible, with their college-age students about how to manage the risks ahead of them.

DREAMer Ally Training for faculty and staff (Registration required at https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6xNfho3RP 3KARcV <https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6xNfho3R P3KARcV> ) - Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 9 am - 1 pm; coffee and lunch served. The training will be offered twice more during 2017-18. Partial attendance at the training cannot be accommodated; all four hours are required of all participants. For more information, contact Justine Carpenter (justcarp at uoregon.edu <mailto:justcarp at uoregon.edu> ). At this training, faculty and staff will explore the unique challenges facing students at the University of Oregon whose immigrant legal status is precarious or unresolved; review the basic laws and policies affecting these students; learn about appropriate referral resources; learn what you should do if immigration come to campus; and receive guidance on how to effectively support DREAMers and identify one or more positive changes that you and your unit can make. After completing the entire four-hour training, participants will have the opportunity to sign a pledge of confidentiality and support, and receive a decal and pin designating them official "DREAMer Allies."

UO Innovation Summit







TBA-There will be numerous COE participants and we'll note their dates and locations as we receive them.


Celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Oregon & beyond

Join us as for an interdisciplinary festival as we highlight innovation among our students, faculty, and alumni, as well as in the wider Eugene community. The UO Innovation Summit will connect participants to ideas, resources, and one another to advance entrepreneurial knowledge, opportunities, and shared pursuits.

The summit is an organized set of activities that will include speaker presentations, interactive exhibits, skill-building workshops, pitch competitions, hackathons, performances, film showings and art exhibitions all under the theme of "innovation." Activities will highlight the latest trends and thought-leadership across a range of disciplines, including science, technology, media, social justice, global issues, arts and literature, sports, music, environment, gender and sexuality, and business.

We invite all members of the UO and Eugene/Springfield communities to submit creative and compelling proposals.

To support the inaugural University of Oregon Innovation Summit, President Michael H. Schill is encouraging the campus and greater Eugene/Springfield community to participate in the university's Innovation week, October 24 - 29. President Schill has declared Friday, October 27 "UO Innovators' Day."
