Dear College of Education Students, Staff and Faculty:

Thank you for your expressed support and patience as the College continues to work with our University and community colleagues to support our students and their families most affected by the recent federal decision to end the DACA program. President Schill sent a very strong, clear message of commitment to DACA students and their families. We also have several College of Education faculty who have been working for years to support our students.

Many of you are asking, "What can I do to help?" I'd like to share some ideas and resources.

First, please stay informed and clear about the issues. An important resource is the UO DACA and Undocumented Students website https://blogs.uoregon.edu/dreamers/ Educational and legal support information is provided as well as legislative updates.

Second, the UO DREAMers workgroup needs your time and commitment. Please consider emailing uodreamers at uoregon.edu<mailto:uodreamers at uoregon.edu> to request that your name be added to their listserve. A small group of committed staff, faculty and community members have been meeting for years to support DACA students and their families, and the workload is heavy. They need your time.

Third, please register for the DREAMer Ally Training for faculty and staff (Registration required at https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6xNfho3RP3KARcV) - Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 9 am - 1 pm; coffee and lunch served. The training will be offered twice more during 2017-18. Partial attendance at the training cannot be accommodated; all four hours are required of all participants. For more information, contact Justine Carpenter (justcarp at uoregon.edu<mailto:justcarp at uoregon.edu>). At this training, faculty and staff will explore the unique challenges facing students at the University of Oregon whose immigrant legal status is precarious or unresolved; review the basic laws and policies affecting these students; learn about appropriate referral resources; learn what you should do if immigration come to campus; and receive guidance on how to effectively support DREAMers and identify one or more positive changes that you and your unit can make. After completing the entire four-hour training, participants will have the opportunity to sign a pledge of confidentiality and support, and receive a decal and pin designating them official "DREAMer Allies."

Finally, please free to stop by the Dean's Office if you have questions, concerns, students who need support, or ideas.

Thank you,

Krista
