coe-staff: Pending DACA decision

Dear College of Education Community:


The President will announce tomorrow whether or not federal efforts will be made to dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA). As you know, DACA is a 2012 Presidential Executive Order that allows immigrants with undocumented status, who entered the US as minors as late as 2007, to receive deferred action from deportation. DACA status can be renewed every two years and be provided with eligibility for a U.S. work permit. The President's decision may seriously threaten University of Oregon students and their families.

Gratefully, UO stakeholders, such as the Dreamers Committee and Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence, have been working together with campus units to respond to tomorrow's decision and outreach to our students and their families who will be most affected by the decision. The College of Education Dean's Office is in continuous communication with UO administration and will attend meetings to assist with campus-wide efforts that provide our students with resources, support, and advocacy. We will be sure to communicate more tomorrow as events unfold.

Thank you for staying well-informed of this pending decision and communicating to our students how much we value them and their contributions to our community.
