coe-staff: Standing ready

Dear College of Education Community:

As media coverage of the terror, hate, and bigotry enacted by white nationalists in Charlottesville continues, we are learning more about the beliefs, actions, and institutions that led to the Charlottesville march, counter protests, and violence.  Many are feeling scared, overwhelmed, and angry.  And, many also feel greater vigilance to do more and speak louder.

In keeping with President Schill's stated commitment, we will renew our efforts as a College to create learning spaces that expose how individuals, institutions, and communities systematically disenfranchise and enact hate.  We stand ready, especially, to continue to identify how our College structures and daily operations disenfranchise and fail to benefit from the knowledge and skills of all.  I hope that we will take more time in our classrooms, labs, and meetings to also discuss how we can systematically disassemble such structures and confront such acts.

Thank you to faculty and staff are supporting College students affected by the Charlottsville terror and to those who have shared events and resources.  For those who want to speak louder and do more, below is a list of a few resources and event links.  The doors of the Dean's Office and Student Academic Services, suite 130, are open and we stand ready to serve.
