FROM AROUND THE O

Big issues remain as Legislature closes in on session's end<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/big-issues-remain-legislature-closes-sessions-end>
University of Oregon leaders and supporters are staying visible in Salem as legislators continue to work through important bills and policy issues. President Michael Schill met with legislators and was present for the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 37, which honored the University of Oregon for its recent academic and athletic achievements. The resolution was co-sponsored by the entire Eugene-area legislative delegation as well as House Majority Leader Jennifer Williamson, an alumna, and Sen. Richard Devlin.

How growing human organs in a lab could be a boon to research<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/how-growing-human-organs-lab-could-be-boon-research>
It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie - human organs, grown in a lab. But it's real. In fact, it's been going on for years, and you can learn all about them at a lecture put on by the UO's Developmental Biology Program on Sunday, June 25.

Ducks on the wing: The Class of 2017 bids farewell<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/ducks-wing-class-2017-bids-farewell>
The Class of 2017 wrote another chapter in the University of Oregon's history book Monday. From the Grad Walk down East 13th Avenue to Matthew Knight Arena to the dozens of department ceremonies, the class added more than 5,000 pages to the UO story. As the sun burned away the morning clouds, students spread out in a sea of green caps and gowns, passing from undergraduate to graduate.

UO researchers and scholars receive interdisciplinary awards<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/uo-researchers-and-scholars-receive-interdisciplinary-awards>
Several UO researchers and scholars recently received interdisciplinary awards intended to provide seed funding for a host of promising projects. Most recently, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation announced that three research teams received the 2017 Interdisciplinary Award in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Campus buildings, services shift to reduced summer hours<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/campus-buildings-services-shift-reduced-summer-hours>
The pace of campus slows considerably just before and during summer term, but it is mostly business as usual. Expect to see some locations offer shorter hours and to find maintenance work going on. Summer term classes begin Monday, June 26. The week prior to that, June 19-23, is sometimes referred to as "zero week.

Program to help students spot fake news stories is highlighted<http://around.uoregon.edu/content/program-help-students-spot-fake-news-stories-highlighted>
Despite efforts to make it harder to spread fake news, the problem does not seem to be going away. And some of the people most susceptible to it are students, the primary consumers of social media where fake news is shared.
