coe-staff: Celebrating Black History Month - EVENT OPPORTUNITIES

Dear Students, Staff and Faculty:

The importance of celebrating Black History Month and our cultural heritage is ever clear.  The College of Education will sponsor and co-sponsor several events this month that we hope bring our communities together and increase our knowledge, appreciation, fortitude, and response.

**Voices: Black in Oregon. A Heritage Event (flyer attached)

Feb 16, 6-10PM, UO Ford Alumni Center

An informal celebration that will feature presentations and musical performances by members of the UO Black community.

**Informational Research Session
Feb 23, 3:45 – 4:30PM, Lokey College of Education 276
For all students. This information session will feature research conducted by College of Education researchers and that promotes educational and health outcomes for children and their families. The following College research units will present: Center for Equity Promotion; Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect; Educational and Community Supports; University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities; Center on Teaching and Learning; and Prevention Science Institute

Thanks so much for your support! The index we're using is ZPEDIV. Please let me know when you transfer the funds, so I can be sure that DEI earmarks them correctly for our event.

Dr. Chronister,

I wanted to follow up with a conversation I had with Jeff about the
College of Education and potential support for the DEI Black History
capstone event. I think there has been some confusion between the Black
History Month Banquet on Feb. 10 at the Valley River Inn and the event
I'm helping to organize, which we are calling "Voices: Black in Oregon",
at the Ford Alumni Center Ballroom on Feb. 16. Our event is more of an
informal celebration that will feature presentations and musical
performances by members of the UO black community. We're asking units
around campus if they can donate $100 to help support the event, or if
they have faculty, staff, or students who might be willing to present or
perform at the event. I've attached our sponsorship request letter with
more details.
