coe-staff: Center on Teaching and Learning joins the COE!

Hello COE Community,

We are very pleased to announce that the Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) has re-joined the College of Education after being housed under the auspices of the UO's Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation for the past several years.

Founded in 2000 by Ed Kame'enui, Dean-Knight Professor Emeritus, CTL comes to the COE with approximately 20 grants and contracts funded through IES, NSF, OSEP, OESE, totaling nearly $40 million in research, development, and dissemination activities in the area of academic prevention and intervention.

In collaboration with faculty in Behavioral Research and Teaching (BRT) and other faculty across the COE, CTL was recently awarded the National Center for Improving Literacy Outcomes to translate and disseminate evidence basis for screening, identification, and instruction for students with reading disabilities, including dyslexia.

CTL is also partnering with the COE and UO EXCEL to deliver workshops across Oregon, beginning at UO Portland White Stag, to train teachers and educators to better understand dyslexia, and to use evidence based approaches to screen, identify and treat students with dyslexia.

In the near future, CTL's Academic Clinic will begin providing services in our HEDCO Clinic to screen, identify, and treat students with reading and math disabilities, including dyslexia and dyscalculia.

Hank Fien, Associate Professor of School Psychology and Director of CTL says, "Our NTTF and TTF faculty alike are thrilled to begin more formal collaborations with COE to further integrate the stellar academic program and spectacular research enterprise at UO COE."
