Virginia L. Walker, PhD, BCBA-D, is an Assistant Professor in the Special Education Department at Illinois State University where she serves on the faculty for the Learning Behavior Specialist I and Learning Behavior Specialist II Multiple Disabilities programs.  Dr. Walker began her career as a special education teacher of students with low incidence disabilities in Atlanta, Georgia before attending the University of Virginia where she worked on several federally funded grants involving research in the area of multi-tiered models of positive behavioral interventions and support in early childhood settings and teacher preparation in the area of low incidence disabilities.  Building upon this work, Dr. Walker's line of research as an Assistant Professor has focused on three general themes: behavioral interventions for students with low incidence disabilities, supports planning to enhance the inclusion of students with low incidence disabilities, and effective training practices for school staff supporting students with low incidence disabilities.  Dr. Walker serves as an editorial review board member of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, one of the primary publications of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Research and Practice for Persons with Severe Disabilities, the primary publication of TASH (formerly The Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps).  Additionally, she serves as co-founder and leader of the Early Career Researcher Network, a special interest group of TASH that serves to overcome barriers faced by early career scholars and promote continued research in high-need areas relevant to the TASH national agenda (e.g., promoting positive and proactive behavior support strategies).
