coe-staff: Important - UO Senate motions passed

?Dear College of Education Students, Staff and Faculty:


Recent local and national events have reminded us how students' access to an exceptional education can be so significantly compromised.  These events have shed greater light on enduring injustices, not new ones, for those individuals and communities who are repeatedly pushed to the margins and whose contributions are lost every day.


We also have witnessed these past few weeks united families and communities fight for their rights, safety, land, history, and more.  This week, the UO Senate passed three relevant motions and we want to be sure that you know about them.  Thank you to our College Senate representatives, Deanna Linville, Laura Lee McIntyre, and Beth Harn.


The UO Senate passed motions to:


(a)   declare the UO a sanctuary campus;

(b)   reaffirm our shared values of respect for diversity, equity and inclusion; and
(c)    revise the current Students Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Violence Complaint and Response Policy to be more attentive to concerns raised by survivors, students and faculty.

The College of Education will uphold these values and actions by strengthening our efforts to provide educational experiences that help eliminate fear and hate as well as promote our development as citizens who value and advance a democratic, just society and pursue the common good. Information about these efforts is forthcoming.
