Dear COE Colleagues,

In case you missed this notice in Around the O (http://around.uoregon.edu/content/meeting-set-discuss-reporting-prohibited-discrimination?utm_source=ato11-01-16):
“The University Senate’s Responsible Reporting Work Group has set a November campus town hall meeting to comment on a proposed revision of a portion of the university’s discrimination complaint and response policy.

The meeting will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in Room 180 Prince Lucien Campbell Hall.

An emergency policy was put in place in August to address UO employees’ responsibilities for communicating reports of prohibited discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. The work group is drafting a permanent policy related to student-on-student sexual misconduct and harassment and is expected to post the draft for review on the University Senate website by Nov. 2.

Law professor Merle Weiner, chair of the Senate group, is encouraging faculty, staff and students to review the draft and comment at the town hall. After the public session, the work group will complete its policy proposal and present it to the University Senate for discussion and possible adoption. If adopted by the Senate, the proposal then would be forwarded to President Michael Schill for his review as a possible amendment to the UO's current emergency policy.

I very much hope you will consider attending the forum on Monday afternoon. The policy we adopt will have significant implications for your relationships with students, including graduate students. It may have implications for the functioning of Clinics. It likely will impact what you can do in the classroom.

I am a member of this working group, the only person from the COE involved. This group has been meeting weekly since early August to prepare this policy.

Here's the link to the policy.

Please come with any questions, concerns or comments you have.
Thanks!
