Dear Colleagues,

GEO is pleased to announce our annual Study Abroad Fair on November 16, 2016 from 11 am-4 pm in the EMU Ballroom. In the past, faculty have requested that this event information be made available prior to the start of fall term so that it could be included on their fall syllabi. Please share these event details, as well as two additional opportunities offered at the upcoming fair, with your department’s faculty and staff.

Faculty Info Sessions at GEO Study Abroad Fair
This year we are excited to offer a special opportunity to faculty leading a study abroad program in 2016-17. Faculty leaders are invited to make a short presentation during the fair’s break-out sessions to be held 12-3 pm in the rooms adjacent to the ballroom. Each faculty leader will have 15 minutes to highlight their specific program to any interested attendees (the fair typically attracts 500+ students interested in studying abroad). We believe that faculty will greatly benefit from this new opportunity! To claim a session slot, faculty should contact Elizabeth Dougherty (edougher at uoregon.edu<mailto:edougher at uoregon.edu>). Slots will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis until all slots are filled. The deadline to request a slot is October 1, 2016. Faculty presenters will subsequently be provided with a short guide to highlighting their program during this limited timeframe.

Departmental Advisors Fair Tabling Opportunity
This year, the study abroad fair will include two dedicated Departmental Advisor tables, to be located in the main tabling area of the fair. Each department’s academic advisor is invited to attend the fair in order to chat informally with students and begin the dialogue about study abroad and degree requirements. Our hope is that students will feel supported in their interest to go abroad, and at the same time acquire initial information about how an international education experience might fit into their unique academic path. We do not expect advisors to have full advising discussions with students (as the venue would not be appropriate), but rather to answer simple questions from students such as: “I’m a _____ major. Can I study abroad?”. Once we have received feedback about departmental interest in tabling at our fair, we will work directly with departmental advisors to coordinate shift assignments. Interested departmental advisors should contact Elizabeth Dougherty (edougher at uoregon.edu<mailto:edougher at uoregon.edu>) for additional information.

Thank you for your support of study abroad opportunities for your students!

Best,
Lisa Calevi
